The Humphreys or Humphries Family

This name is spelt in various ways - Humphreys and Humphries being the most common, but Humfries, Humfrys, Humphrys and Humphris and other variants also occur - even Owmfreys.

There are at present 30 Grants of Probate on the data base between 1723 and 1858.  Some of these families are clearly located on the Welsh borders in Montgomeryshire (Buttington, Forden & Hyssington - 9 Grants), and in Alberbury, Llanfair Waterdine and in Chirbury.  There is also a group to the east of the Clee Hills around Stottesdon (5 Humphries Wills), down through Cleobury Mortimer into north-west Worcestershire (Rock and Bewdley).

There are 138 male marriages on the south Shropshire data base, including 10 in Alberbury, 15 in Ludlow, 6 in Stottesdon, broadly replicating the spread of probate grants.  25+ were in the 1500 or 1600s.
